Top 5 Projects That Defined Our Journey

FBP_Blog #32_1_Canadian Agri-Blend

Fifty years is a long time to be building.  Not just structures, but relationships, trust, and a reputation that holds strong in any weather.

Over the decades, Flynn Bros Projects has been called into every kind of situation: from disaster recovery to large-scale commercial expansions, from municipal builds to custom industrial solutions. And through it all, one thing has remained constant: we’ve shown up with integrity, built with precision, and stood by our word.

There’s no such thing as “just another job” here. No two projects have ever been the same, but every single one has mattered. Every client relationship has shaped who we are. But when we look back, there are a few key projects that stand out. Not because they were the biggest. Not even because they were the hardest. But because they revealed something essential about Flynn Bros: our strength, our adaptability, and our commitment to doing things right.

These are the projects that helped define the journey.

1. Refrigerative Supply Limited

Refrigerative Supply needed a facility in North Calgary that could serve as a warehouse, training centre, sales floor, and office headquarters. The site design had to be practical, flexible, and efficient for different teams working together.

We delivered a project that included 30,000 square foot pre-engineered Behlen building with 8,000 square feet of office and retail space on the main floor, and a mezzanine for training, meetings, and more offices. The warehouse included a 29-foot clear ceiling height, dock and grade-level loading, and skylights for natural lighting.

A key challenge was the curtain wall installation. The custom Bendheim glass was delayed due to overseas shipping. To keep the schedule on track, we adjusted the construction sequence and coordinated subcontractors to complete other areas ahead of time. The building opened on schedule and has been performing as intended ever since.

Why it defined us: Because we managed complexity without disruption and delivered a building that works just as hard as the people inside it.

2. ADM Foods

In 1995, ADM Agri-Industries selected Flynn Bros to build four 105-foot diameter grain bins at their Lloydminster facility. At the time, this was one of the largest bin projects in the region and it demanded experience, planning, and control.

Each bin required a solid concrete foundation, high-capacity aeration, and precise steel assembly. The logistics of the job were significant, but the end result was a set of high-volume storage bins that stood up to the demands of ADM’s oilseed processing operations.

This project marked a turning point. It showed our ability to lead major agricultural infrastructure work at a time when few others were building at that size and scale.

Why it defined us: Because it raised expectations across the industry and proved that we could lead in large-scale ag construction.

3. LDC Yorkton

In 2024, Louis Dreyfus Company brought us in to expand grain storage at their active Yorkton facility. The scope included three new Brock grain bins, each 105 feet in diameter and over 267,000 pounds when complete.

We placed 2500 cubic yards of granular fill under each bin, poured over 450 cubic yards of concrete for each foundation, and used 26 hydraulic jacks per bin to safely raise the steel structure. Each bin was equipped with canola-specific aeration systems and a Springland sweep capable of moving 6000 bushels per hour.

This project took place while LDC’s site remained fully operational. We worked closely with their teams to coordinate access, maintain safety, and complete the job without disrupting traffic or daily work.

Why it defined us: Because it combined technical execution with real-time coordination in an environment where there was no room for error.

4. Roof Raise in Linton

Signwest

In 2002, Flynn Bros was hired to raise the roof on an 80,000 square foot industrial building in Linton, Indiana. The structure needed an additional eight feet of vertical clearance. The catch was that the existing roof needed to stay intact and be lifted in place.

We developed a custom lift plan and executed the raise using our proprietary jacking system. Every stage of the lift had to be carefully monitored to ensure the building stayed level and structurally sound throughout. The result was a clean, safe lift with no structural compromise and no need for teardown.

Why it defined us: Because we delivered on a job most wouldn’t attempt and showed what it means to plan, prepare, and get it right.

5. NCSG

Our work with NCSG is not defined by one major project but by years of consistent collaboration. From crane yards to service buildings and operational expansions, we’ve helped support their work across Western Canada.

They’re one of the country’s largest heavy haul and crane service providers. They keep calling because they know what they’ll get from us: steady communication, clear expectations, and work that speaks for itself.

Why it defined us: Because long-term trust is built one job at a time and we’ve earned that trust by showing up and delivering.

Honourable Mention: Roseridge Admin Building – Built With Purpose

Roseridge Waste Management Services needed a durable administrative space to support day-to-day operations. It wasn’t a high-profile project, but it mattered. We delivered a practical, well-executed facility that met their needs and reflected the same standards we apply to every job.

Honourable Mention: JAPA Equipment – Scale and Function

JAPA needed a space that could support sales, service, and logistics for heavy equipment. We delivered a high-functioning industrial facility with efficient layout, smart flow, and no wasted space. Built for purpose, built to last.

Looking Ahead

These five projects helped shape Flynn Bros. But they’re not the whole story. Not even close.

Over 50 years, we’ve built grain terminals, equipment shops, custom steel structures, emergency repairs, public buildings — the list goes on. And every job, whether it lasted two weeks or two years, has added to what we’ve become.

Right now, we’re in the middle of some of the biggest and most complex builds we’ve ever taken on. And we’ll be telling those stories soon. Keep an eye out.

To every client who trusted us, every partner who stood with us, and every crew member who gave their best — thank you.

This is what it means to be Flynn Bros.
