In late 2021, Flynn Bros Projects was approached to design an expansion of the The Richardson Pioneer Melfort Grain Elevator site. The project would include 2 new 72-foot diameter grain bins manufactured by Brock Grain. Flynn Bros Projects took care of the design and build from civil and foundations to bin erection, conveyer and catwalk install, plus electrical and commissioning.

The project started as soon as the ground began to thaw in early 2022 and was completed fall of 2022. Higher than anticipated rain fall & overly soft ground conditions after excavation caused delays in early spring extending the civil work schedule and pushing back the schedule for the concrete pile install. The existing infrastructure required Flynn Bros Projects to modify the design as a grain drying unit was already installed next to the elevator where the foundation for the new grain bins would have normally been situated.

The elevator needed to stay operational during the expansion, which reduced access to the workspace for the crew as heavy hauler truck traffic needed to be allowed to continue unloading grain near the expansion location. Flynn Bros Projects was able able to resolve all issues quickly and ensure all systems function as required. This expansion provided 521,854 additional bushels of storage.
